Josh Roelofse

Drum Instructor

I'm Josh Roelofse from Mitchell's Plain. Music has always been a integral part of my life. My parents enrolled me into Beau Soleil Music Centre at the age of 8 to give me an opportunity to pursue my dreams, where I was trained on drum kit and percussion in both classical and Jazz genre, taught and mentored by Frank Mallows and later, David West. During this time, I performed in various Chamber concerts, Jazzathons and gala concerts with junior bands, senior bands and orchestra's.

I received both junior and senior percussionist awards while at Beau Soleil. At the age of 11 I joined my church band which I'm currently still part of to this day. South Peninsula High school gave me the opportunity to pursue another passion which is bass guitar. I was part of both junior and senior bands at South Peninsula.

At the age of 16, in 2019, I performed in the Cape Town International Jazz Festival with the senior school Jazz band. I also participated in High School Jam events at the Grand west arena and attended the Standard Bank Grahams Town Jazz Festival and various cultural events. I successfully completed my grade 8 practical in drums with distinction through Trinity College of London in my matric year. I am currently studying Jazz music and specializing in drum kit at the University of Cape Town and performed at various gigs and events across Cape Town.
