Sherri Adams

Violin, Piano/Keyboard and Guitar Instructor

My love and passion for music and specifically, the violin and piano, was cultivated from a very young age. I hail from a family of music enthusiasts and church musicians thus i grew up surrounded by different music styles blaring from the radio in our family home to singing along to guitar accompaniment at family gatherings and later joining our church band which i am currently still part of to this day.

My musical career spans from primary through to high school and university thereafter. At the age of 8, i started taking violin lessons at Woodville Primary and 2 years later, at the recommendation of my music teacher, piano became my second instrument. At Heathfield High school, i received piano lessons with Mrs Felicia Lesch and attended Beau Soleil Music Centre for violin studies under the mentorship of David Snaith and later, Marina Louw. During this time, i performed with the junior and senior string ensembles respectively (Beau Soleil). I was the associate leader of our resident school orchestra and leader of the chamber ensemble. Performances include school events, eistoddfodds, gala concerts (Beau Soleil), pre-concert performances for the CTPO (Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra) at Artscape and City Hall, corporate functions, presidential dignitary events and cultural events such as the annual performance for the Cape Town - based Hungarian and Indonesian consulates in honour of their respective National Day celebrations.

For a few years, i was the leader of the Indabana quartet managed by Mrs Felecia Lesch and performed at many local gigs and afforded the opportunity to play a cameo role in a Pieter Dirk Uys short television film as the quartet featured in a restaurant scene. Amongst these are the notable mentions of debuting the composition - Quartet in D Opus 28 - of a young South African composer, Stephen Lowe, at the Kelvin Grove 9 Club in Newlands and performing at the opening of a restaurant owned by a veteran local actor. Other performances and music opportunities during my career include the Sanlam Music Project, Franschoek Chamber Music Festival and KKNK festival.

I was a member of the university symphonic orchestra of UCT and Stellenbosch, respectively. I received training in music education at Stellenbosch University. Since 2008, I have been teaching violin and piano privately and/or at a music academy; and perform as a freelance violinist often collaborating with other musicians."
