Instructor
Abigail Cookson, formerly known as Aby, pursued music at the young age of 8 yrs. old. She took up violin lessons from Gr 2 to Gr 4 at Rustenburg Girls Junior School. She was then homeschooled from the age of 10 and took up cello lessons at Beau Music Centre under the guidance of many well-known teachers such as Cheryl de Haviland, Sarah Acres and Marian Lewin. She was part of many of the respective orchestras and ensembles and took part in various chamber festivals and competitions. She was as member of the Cape Philharmonic Youth Orchestra from 2013 - 2014 and has also completed her Grade 5 ABRSM Theory as well as Gr 7 Cello ABRSM practical in 2014 -2016.
Having been raised in the church, she took up keyboard and at the age of 11 she joined the church band as the primary keyboardist and still continues to serve in the music ministry. Seeing the lack of music education in the community, she also started a Youth band in 2012 till present; where she teaches basic theory and practical on drums, guitar, bass and keys to the youth of the community. This year Aby is currently completing a Higher Certificate in Sound Technology and also hopes to further her music studies in Musicology at UNISA.
